I think the worst thing to happen to any marriage is the pain and humiliation that poor Betty Bayo could be experiencing right now. First and foremost, I think marriage is an intimate affair that shouldn’t be exposed to the ridicule that happens on media and Facebook where it is all about self preservation, persecution and settling scores.
Betty Bayo appeared on KTN’s Prime Time News and they had a poll, asking whether or not she should forgive Pastor Kanyari. The results of the polls tilted towards forgiving, forgetting and forging ahead. And that is where we should leave it because, after all is said and done, it is up to Betty and Kanyari to sort out their mess.
I think marriage is a beautiful mess that a bride goes into, knowing that this could be the one kiss that is going to make up for all the frogs she has kissed before meeting her prince charming.
Dating is a difficult stage in a relationship because it is mpossible to know a person whose agenda is to remain as mysterious as they possibly can. During dating, people seldom bring their real self to the get-to-know-you-better table. That is why, on a first date, a lady thinks licking fingers and finishing her fries and chicken is sacrilege. It is as if leaving a half eaten chicken and a heap of fries uneaten adds value.
The guy, on the other hand, maintains the demeanor of a perfect gentleman who pays for what has gone to waste without a fuss, which is, a hopeless set up because in marriage people pass wind, clear the plate, squeeze the wrong end of the toothpaste tube, leave stray dirty socks lying around and probably recycle hair weaves.
And once a couple has learnt how to accept and live with each other’s flaws and faults, disaster strikes like a poisonous cobra. Though marriage and the family unit is under constant threat in our nation, all is not lost. Our Awesome God Who ordained marriage is actively involved in the business of reviving and sustaining marriages. I believe the same applies to Betty Bayo whose eleventh hour is at hand. I hope and pray that God will give her wisdom, clarity and courage that will enable the two of them to weather the storm. I also hope that her decision will steer Kanyari, who could be on his way to Damascus, to the right path.
